What should you learn from an examination?
An examination should give you a clear picture of your oral health and anything that needs monitoring or treatment. Ask what is urgent, what can be planned later and whether more than one reasonable option exists. That makes it easier to weigh up care and cost.
Mention previous treatment, medication, dry mouth or dental anxiety. These details can matter to the person examining you. You can also ask for X-rays or findings that affect your treatment plan to be explained.
Compare the whole cost, not just the first-visit price
Check exactly what the appointment includes. Are X-rays included when needed? Is tartar removal part of the visit or a separate procedure? What might follow-up or further treatment cost? Two similar-looking prices may cover different things.
Before a treatment that takes several visits, you should receive a preliminary written estimate for the full course of care. Ask which procedures it covers, the clinic's prices, the Swedish reference prices and how any dental support affects your own cost. A reference price is a benchmark used in support calculations; it does not mean every clinic charges the same amount.
